Childlike Coronation: Can a Crayon Crown Redefine Art?

Sofie Meulenaere, an avant-garde Belgian artist, uniquely explores her psyche through a series of hypnosis-induced drawings, entitled “Through a Child’s Eyes.” Born in Ghent in 1985, Meulenaere discovered her ability to authentically regress to her childhood state, creating art from the perspective of her younger self. The piece “Crayon Crown” exemplifies her work, using crayons to blend the untamed imagination of a child with the reflective depths of an adult. Despite her innovation, art critics have often dismissed her work as a mere novelty, criticizing the authenticity of the process and the simplistic medium of crayons in the high art world.
